I spoke to my mum this morning, while she waited for my dad to get some tests done at the hospital. I asked her why she just didn’t go home, as the hospital said the tests will take a few hours to be done. But I think she just preferred being in the airconditioned comfort inside the hospital, as apparently Sydney was sweltering in 40°C heat again today 🥵
And then I watched the men’s semifinal tonight, Thiem vs Zverev. I’m still trying to stick to Sydney time. We still slept at around 1-2am while we were there, but I’m hoping I can still keep to that same time in HK to slowly become more of a morning person. But that means I should be going to bed now. Not sure that’ll happen…! 🤨
We decided to subscribe to the sports package on cable, to watch the rest of the Australian Open. Normally, I would suggest that we just go to one of the numerous bars at Central or Wan Chai and watch the last few matches there, but with all this talk about the coronavirus, we’d prefer to just stay home and watch it in our living room instead. We’ll also save money not having to buy food or drinks there, and we’ll eat more healthily this way too 👍
Kitty has been sleeping in between our pillows the last few nights. She jumps up onto the bed all on her own, which is impressive enough because our bed sits quite high, and she’s not the youngest feline around anymore. and then heads between the pillows and makes herself comfortable for the rest of the day/evening. It’s so cute!! ☺️ The last few days must have been quite cold for her – or she misses us. I like to think it’s both 😆
I ran a few errands today. The majority of people out were wearing face masks, I guess a lot of HKers went through SARS and they know the drill.
N found this article giving you tips on how to stay safe. So I’ve been more concerned about wearing gloves when out in public today, and making sure I don’t touch my face. His office has asked everyone to work from home this week, so I suspect other companies are doing the same. Schools are shut until mid-February.
Sighhh… First it’s the protests and now this. We’ve only been living in this city for just over a year, and two major issues impacted it during that time. It’s like the universe is telling us we shouldn’t be in this city…! 🤨
We flew back to HK today. Back to winter 🥶 And the weather has decided it’s going to actually be cold now, after giving us a really mild winter until now. Hopefully it won’t last for too long, and we can start getting into spring really soon 😆
It was good to be back in Sydney, though. It’s nice to be gone for a while, you can see more changes in the city when you’ve been gone for a long time. And Little Miss seemed ok too, she survived the six days that we were away 😅
I’m still on Sydney time, so maybe I can use this as a way to become a morning person in HK… 😉
We didn’t really do much today. I accompanied my parents to their GP, who seems to be nice enough. We then went to a local shopping centre and had a quick lunch, and then did a bit of shopping before we went home.
We then met up with a friend at a pub in North Sydney. I specifically requested pub food, because we don’t get much of that in HK. Well there are actually a ton of pubs around, but there are so many other Asian food options that it’s hard to ignore them! 😆 So I always crave pub food whenever we’re back.
We fly back tomorrow. It’d be good to see Little Miss again. I hope she’s been ok this whole time 🤞 And now that both the western and Chinese New Years will soon be behind us, I hope I can now start getting into some sort of routine for 2020!
We went and had yum cha with the parents today. I thought the food was pretty good, but there was the odd dish that let them down. And even after having had so much yum cha in HK, I thought the quality today was still pretty good.
We then went shopping for a while in the city, getting nostalgic again, seeing a few shopping centres that I used to regularly frequent, as well as all the Aussie brands around 😊
And then we finished off the evening watching the four-set Feds vs Fucsovics match, making a quick call to my brother and helping my mum with her exercises given to her by the physio. She was quite spent at the end of it, and really sore at times throughout, which means she was working her muscles 💪 👏 I’ll continue to help her tomorrow while we’re here, and hopefully she can maintain the momentum once we’ve gone back to HK. And hopefully the exercises do help her! 🤞
We went to N’s brother’s place for a quick visit, having lunch there, and then just chillaxing for the rest of the afternoon. The weather wasn’t too hot today, not too hot for a summer day, so it was a very relaxing 😌
We then went and had Japanese for dinner, which was really nice! The proportion of rice to fish for the sushi wasn’t your typical Japanese ratio, it was more Aussie style with much more rice per slice of fish – but hey, we are in Oz 😆 But they still tasted great 😋
And then in the evening, I started getting into the Kyrgios vs Khachanov match that was already in play when we got back. So much so that I had to finish watching it right until the very end – ie another 5-set match that went into the newly introduced ten-point tiebreaker!
My mum was finally discharged today, despite not having been seen by the senior doctor 🙄 So apparently he thought she was stable enough to be discharged. But he does want to do more tests, so he’s asked for her to book an appointment at his office so he can conduct more tests. So hopefully she’ll be ok in the meantime 🤞
We went shopping for a little while after she was discharged. I was just so excited to be in an Australian shopping centre again, with familiar brands and familiar products 😆 I just take all this stuff for granted, until it’s taken away from me. So I want to go do some proper shopping sometime during the next few days.
And then we watched the Australian Open for the rest of the evening. Another very Aussie thing: watching the Australian Open on TV during summer. Another thing I miss.
An Aussie is currently playing against Feds. If he was playing anyone else, I’d be going for Millman, patriotism and all. But it’s Feds! 😂 Not happy with a 5-set match, but a Feds win is a Feds win 😂 So c’mon! It’s after midnight here, and they’re still playing. I don’t know how they do it 😮
But as good as it is to be back, I still don’t like leaving Little Miss for too long 😔 I checked up on her tonight, and she’s still good. It looked like I just woke her up 😅
My routine is totally out of whack at the moment. I’ve been trying to sort out the internet at my parents’ place, and still not having any luck. And then dealing with my parents, who can be rather draining, each in their own way 🙄😂 AND lacking sleep. All happening in 40°C weather. A great day 😔
My mum is still in the hospital. She can’t be discharged until the senior doctor gives her the all clear. He wasn’t working at the hospital yesterday, so we have to wait until tomorrow (ie today, I’m running late with this post 😔) when he’s back.
She had a small bleed in her brain, and the junior doctor thinks that is what’s causing the intermittent numbness in her arm. But I’m concerned about a bleed in her brain! That’s totally not normal. And what do we do going forward? Has the bleeding stopped? Can it happen again? How do we minimise this from happening again? What can she do if it does happen again? I’d like the senior doctor to come by today and talk to us and answer our questions, and give us some more information.
So that’s where I’m at this morning in Sydney. At least now I am somewhat more awake and a bit more functional, so I can think a bit more clearly and not be operating in this fog 🌫 Second day in Sydney, so hopefully I can establish more of a routine today.
I am writing this on the plane on the way to Sydney. It’s 3am HK time, 6am Sydney time. We had an overnight flight, so as you can imagine, we didn’t get much sleep on the flight 😒 So let’s see how I survive today…
We decided to head back to Sydney to visit my parents. We still don’t know what’s happening with my mum, but even if everything is relatively ok, we figured spending our Chinese New Year extra long weekend in Sydney wouldn’t hurt 😊 If she is ok, maybe we can do some touristy stuff while we’re there 😁 And maybe catch up with a friend or two.
And now that I have Riley the appbot in the house, I can also check up on Little Miss whenever I want to. That appbot is just so awesome 👍 So I hope she’ll be ok too while we’re gone. She gets quite sad when we’re not around 😔
