City-wide protests

City-wide protests continued in HK today, apparently causing havoc to trains, with people having to find alternative ways to get to get to work this morning. And then this afternoon, the protesters were out in full force, attacking what seemed like mainly police stations in various parts of the city. They’re getting more and more violent, now attacking more random citizens, for what seems like no reason at all. At the rate that they’re going, someone is going to eventually die. I’m sorry to say, but that’s where things are inevitably going. And will they stop then?? Tensions are at an all-time high, and there is no sign of these protests ending anytime soon, so this seems inevitable 😔 I’m surprised it actually hasn’t happened yet, to be honest. It’s all quite a sad state of affairs 😔

As for me, I’m still resting, trying to recover from this stupid cold. While following the live coverage of the protests in the city, we also watched a few more episodes of The Umbrella Academy, which is actually pretty good. We’re actually both enjoying it 😊 A good distraction from all the chaos that’s going on in the city at the moment.

And the protests are still going strong in various districts close to midnight tonight 😔 Are they going to continue into the night??

Resting

It had finally tuned into a full-blown cold today 🤧 I spent more of the day sleeping than awake, so with all this rest, I hope I start feeling a little better tomorrow. Sighhh… I hate being sick 😔

I managed to watch Avengers: Endgame, though, all three hours of it. Despite the length, I still enjoyed it, and I thought it was a nice way to end the series, if it is indeed the end of the series. I assume it’s the end, but I thought they were in the middle of filming another Thor movie, so maybe there’s still a few more to go… Maybe it’s the end of the Avengers movies, but maybe they’re still making more for each of the individual characters 🤷‍♀️

And then after a lonnnggg nap – N managed to sneak in a gym session while I continued to rest – we then watched the first episode of The Umbrella Academy, which looks quite promising. It’s a little different, and a bit dark, so it’s piquing our interest… They’ve finished the first season and now working on a second, so hopefully we enjoy this first season, at least 🤞

Grunting and looking for recommendations

I slept until noon today, excluding the time when the FedEx guy buzzed in this morning 😒 I must’ve looked so out of it when I opened the door, I felt pretty shite when he buzzed in, pretty much just grunting at him the entire time 😂

But somehow I managed to still do some work in the afternoon, but then I had to take a bit of a nap in the early evening to get some more rest.

I then got up and finished off Goblin, my current Korean drama. This drama actually picked up in the second half of the series, as a lot of them seem to, so overall, I enjoyed this series too. It has nice music and impressive cinematography, and quite artistic at times as well. I think this series has the potential to be watched a second time, and you’d still get something out of it the second time around. I don’t say that with many (any?) dramas, so I think this one is a bit more multi-layered compared to other dramas.

I went looking for a Chinese drama to watch, to work on my poor listening skills. But I can’t find any that I like! I resumed watching Love O2O, which is okayyy… But it still doesn’t have the same pull as the Korean dramas 😔 But I’m persevering with it anyway, just so I can work on my listening skills a bit, and continue looking for a series that is more up my alley – that is not a Korean drama! 😂 The Story of Yanxi Palace and Eternal Love have both been recommended to me, but the former is a period drama and the latter is a full-on fantasy, neither of which appeal to me. I prefer dramas set in the modern day, with a bit of fantasy thrown in – much like Goblin! 😆 So I’m open to other recommendations, if anyone has any!

I was barely even trying

In complete contrast to yesterday, I had the most productive day today! I was focussing on stuff in and for the house, so I got a ton of chores done, including setting up my Bullet Journal for August 👍 And then outside of the house: we brought some big items down to the laundromat; and we also picked up and dropped off some dry cleaning. And then we also went to two different supermarkets, as each supermarket stocks different items. A bit of a hassle, I know, but that’s just the way it is here, I guess because space is such a prized commodity, and each supermarket can only stock a limited number of items on their shelves 🤷‍♀️

We also got to the gym, and afterwards watched The Secret Life of Pets, the original one, as we hadn’t seen it yet. I’ve been wanting to watch it so I can then watch #2 😊

And I also managed to squeeze in a few more episodes of Goblin, my current Korean drama. I’m now up to the final episode! I just want to finish it so I can move on to the next one. I have so many on my list of dramas to watch, I can’t keep up! They make so many! 😆

I can’t believe we managed to squeeze all of the above into one day, I’m quite proud of our effort – and even more so, since I was barely even trying! 😲

First time and last time

I didn’t go pick up my package from the post office yesterday, so I planned to head over today. I decided to stop by the HK Tourism Visitor Centre at Tsim Sha Tsui first to pick up some brochures for my brother and sister-in-law, who are coming to visit HK tomorrow! Visitor centres always have cool suggestions for tourists, and sometimes even for residents like me. I was a regular at the SG equivalent on Orchard Road 😆 It’ll be the first time they’ll be in HK, so I’m very excited for them 😊 I hope they don’t melt in the heat… 🥵

I then stopped by Nespresso at IFC, and then made my way home – completely forgetting the post office! I can’t believe I forgot to stop by! So now I have to go tomorrow. I’m so annoyed with myself! I had planned out my day perfectly, and then to leave out the most crucial thing… Arghhh! 😤

I heard that this season will be the last for the three Masterchef Australia judges 😔 I guess this will probably be the last for me then, too, as it just won’t be the same with three different judges going forward. The end of an era regardless. They showed the grand finale in Oz tonight, but I’ve only watched the first half, so I’m staying away from social media until I finish off the season. Shannon Bennett returned for the final episode, which I was happy about. I missed him this season, he was great to have in the Masterchef kitchen, and his absence was noticeable. So I guess I just have the second half of the grand finale and I’ll be the end of this Masterchef Australia era 😞

A package and an item? 😉

I had a package delivered on Saturday, but they came during the two hours that I wasn’t home. I atill can’t believe the timing 😒 Anyway, I had my evening all planned out today: I was going to head out and go and buy some Nespresso capsules, as I am currently running really low; head to the post office to pick up my package; and then go to the gym. But then I realised that I forgot to take into account the fact that the post office is only open during regular business hours 😔 Grrr! So all I did was go to the gym. At least I ticked off one thing on my to-do list today! 😆 So I’ll organise myself a bit better tomorrow and head over to the post office a little earlier in the day 😊

And I’m now officially caught up with Masterchef Australia. I’ve even watched the episode that was aired tonight 👍 There is just the grand finale tomorrow night left, and then my life can return to normal 😆 I still reckon there is something going on between Larissa and Derek… (I can Google now because I’m all caught up with the show!) They probably just can’t say anything because Larissa is still in the competition. Give it a week or two and the media will be all over it, if they don’t announce it themselves on social media 😆 This is the sort of thing I watch the show for, not the actual cooking! 😂

Food and continued protests

We went and had a Japanese buffet brunch today with a few of N’s workmates. There’s unlimited champagne available, but I opted out of that, as the one lone glass that I would’ve had wouldn’t have been quite enough to justify paying for free flow 😂 So I just took one sip of N’s champagne, which was enough for me 😆 But food-wise, I reckon I actually got my money’s worth, for once. I’m pretty sure I ate my fair share of oysters, sushi and sashimi 😋

I then went home and watched some more Masterchef Australia. I was going to head to the gym, but I was still so full from brunch that I had to give myself a few more hours to digest first before heading down 😆 So I just watched a few more episodes. And that meant that I managed to catch up with Australia today – YEAH!! I’m one episode behind – ie the one that aired tonight, as I have to wait for people to upload it onto the interweb so I can watch it. But for all intents and purposes, I have caught up – woohoo!! 👍

N went to karate tonight, and as they started making their way home, they noticed the protesters making their way down Connaught Road at Central. Greeeat. We already saw the barricades earlier today as we were walking to brunch, which was also coincidentally at Central, so we had a feeling that protesters would be out later today. We were both a bit worried about him getting home, but luckily it was all ok. The protesters are largely quite peaceful, it’s just the small minority who are a bit more radical that worry me. But even then, they’re not really targetting regular people, so I’m usually not that concerned. But you never know if/when things will escalate, and you don’t want to be caught in the crossfire, figuratively or literally speaking 😔
