On the hunt for a few apps

We went to one of N’s workmate’s places for lunch today. A few others came over as well, and they all played mahjong. I don’t really know how to play. My knowledge of mahjong is just as good as my knowledge of poker – ie very little! ๐Ÿ˜† So I just watched on the sidelines, asking questions and trying to figure out the rules of the game. I want to learn how to play both, but mahjong requires a whole kit: the tiles and all the other bits and bobs, as well as an actual table. I wonder if there’s an app where I can just learn to play on my phone, and I don’t have to actually bet any real money (yet?? ๐Ÿ˜œ). And same with poker. I’ll be trying out a few different apps tonight! ๐Ÿ˜Š

And then I watched the men’s singles final at the Australian Open. It was too quick a match, unfortunately, but it was still great to watch. It’s not as easy as just turning on the TV and having it on free-to-air TV like in Sydney, so at least I didn’t put my life on hold for two weeks just to watch tennis ๐Ÿ˜† So I only watched the odd game this year. But at least I could still watch it at home here in HK without having to go find a sports bar that’s playing it on one of their TVs ๐Ÿ‘

But my one and only project for this weekend never happened: my closet was not touched ๐Ÿ˜” Maybe next weekend.

Sydney weather and time

I spoke to my mum this morning, while she waited for my dad to get some tests done at the hospital. I asked her why she just didn’t go home, as the hospital said the tests will take a few hours to be done. But I think she just preferred being in the airconditioned comfort inside the hospital, as apparently Sydney was sweltering in 40ยฐC heat again today ๐Ÿฅต

And then I watched the men’s semifinal tonight, Thiem vs Zverev. I’m still trying to stick to Sydney time. We still slept at around 1-2am while we were there, but I’m hoping I can still keep to that same time in HK to slowly become more of a morning person. But that means I should be going to bed now. Not sure that’ll happen…! ๐Ÿคจ

Staying home

We decided to subscribe to the sports package on cable, to watch the rest of the Australian Open. Normally, I would suggest that we just go to one of the numerous bars at Central or Wan Chai and watch the last few matches there, but with all this talk about the coronavirus, we’d prefer to just stay home and watch it in our living room instead. We’ll also save money not having to buy food or drinks there, and we’ll eat more healthily this way too ๐Ÿ‘

Kitty has been sleeping in between our pillows the last few nights. She jumps up onto the bed all on her own, which is impressive enough because our bed sits quite high, and she’s not the youngest feline around anymore. and then heads between the pillows and makes herself comfortable for the rest of the day/evening. It’s so cute!! โ˜บ๏ธ The last few days must have been quite cold for her – or she misses us. I like to think it’s both ๐Ÿ˜†

Focus on the parents

We went and had yum cha with the parents today. I thought the food was pretty good, but there was the odd dish that let them down. And even after having had so much yum cha in HK, I thought the quality today was still pretty good.

We then went shopping for a while in the city, getting nostalgic again, seeing a few shopping centres that I used to regularly frequent, as well as all the Aussie brands around ๐Ÿ˜Š

And then we finished off the evening watching the four-set Feds vs Fucsovics match, making a quick call to my brother and helping my mum with her exercises given to her by the physio. She was quite spent at the end of it, and really sore at times throughout, which means she was working her muscles ๐Ÿ’ช ๐Ÿ‘ I’ll continue to help her tomorrow while we’re here, and hopefully she can maintain the momentum once we’ve gone back to HK. And hopefully the exercises do help her! ๐Ÿคž

More Aussie-ness

We went to N’s brother’s place for a quick visit, having lunch there, and then just chillaxing for the rest of the afternoon. The weather wasn’t too hot today, not too hot for a summer day, so it was a very relaxing ๐Ÿ˜Œ

A kookaburra in their backyard!

We then went and had Japanese for dinner, which was really nice! The proportion of rice to fish for the sushi wasn’t your typical Japanese ratio, it was more Aussie style with much more rice per slice of fish – but hey, we are in Oz ๐Ÿ˜† But they still tasted great ๐Ÿ˜‹

And then in the evening, I started getting into the Kyrgios vs Khachanov match that was already in play when we got back. So much so that I had to finish watching it right until the very end – ie another 5-set match that went into the newly introduced ten-point tiebreaker!

As good as it is to be back…

My mum was finally discharged today, despite not having been seen by the senior doctor ๐Ÿ™„ So apparently he thought she was stable enough to be discharged. But he does want to do more tests, so he’s asked for her to book an appointment at his office so he can conduct more tests. So hopefully she’ll be ok in the meantime ๐Ÿคž

We went shopping for a little while after she was discharged. I was just so excited to be in an Australian shopping centre again, with familiar brands and familiar products ๐Ÿ˜† I just take all this stuff for granted, until it’s taken away from me. So I want to go do some proper shopping sometime during the next few days.

And then we watched the Australian Open for the rest of the evening. Another very Aussie thing: watching the Australian Open on TV during summer. Another thing I miss.

An Aussie is currently playing against Feds. If he was playing anyone else, I’d be going for Millman, patriotism and all. But it’s Feds! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Not happy with a 5-set match, but a Feds win is a Feds win ๐Ÿ˜‚ So c’mon! It’s after midnight here, and they’re still playing. I don’t know how they do it ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

But as good as it is to be back, I still don’t like leaving Little Miss for too long ๐Ÿ˜” I checked up on her tonight, and she’s still good. It looked like I just woke her up ๐Ÿ˜…
