I decided to go all the way to Expo today, just one station from Changi Airport on the east. They have a Female Festival thing on this weekend, in one of the halls at Singapore Expo. Lorna Jane, my favourite fitness apparel brand, has a stall there, so I had to go check it out. They mark up the prices in SG, but the 20% discount that they’re offering at the Festival just brings it down closer to the prices in Oz. And without flying back to Oz, this is the best I can do.
I wanted to get there at 10:30am, the opening time of the Festival, but that’s a tad early for me, so I got there closer to 11am. Not that it mattered, coz SG is not a morning city anyway 😊 When I got there, there were way more people manning the stalls than there were actual visitors 😂 So I got to browse through the racks comfortably, and try on items without having to wait for the one and only change room at the stall. The (relatively) early morning start was worth it 👍
I had a quick breakfast at Changi City Point, virtually across the road from the Expo halls, before heading back into town to attend our very first calligraphy lesson! We’re taking a bit of a break from Chinese language lessons, so this short course should help us maintain a bit of the reading and writing aspect of the language.
But man, that lesson was tough. Just writing one horizontal (or vertical) stroke and making it look good was hard enough. Anything more complicated than that was just ridiculous. I guess with anything, it all comes down to practice, and this was our first attempt at this form of art. We had fun, and got a bit of a challenge along the way. I can see how the practice can be quite meditative, so I’d like to continue practising, even after we finish this short 5-lesson course.
I got my hair cut later in the afternoon, and then went home and just chillaxed the rest of the evening. We watched a few more episodes of Masterchef Australia, before calling it a night. I have another early morning start tomorrow, this time for dancing 💃🏻
I got up at 7am 😲 to accompany N to the airport, he flew to HK this morning. He was flying out of Terminal 4, the new terminal, which I haven’t yet been to. So I thought this was as good a day as any to go and visit 😊
It was actually rather disappointing! The public area is much smaller compared to the public areas at the other terminals; it seems they saved the good stuff for those actually flying. So my waking up at 7am didn’t actually pay off in the way that I expected 😂
I then went to Changi City Point, a discount shopping outlet very close to the airport. Most places open 10am or 11am in SG, and I got there at 9am, so when I was nearing the mall, I got this sinking feeling that it wouldn’t be open yet.
And it wasn’t 😆 Only a few places were open, most of which were food places, so I went and grabbed a quick breakfast and then just walked around, waiting for the mall to wake up 😂 I’m glad I did because the mall itself is actually quite pretty! There is a lot of greenery both inside and out, and there is also a lot of running water. I suppose they consulted feng shui experts when they designed the building, as typical feng shui features can be seen throughout.
Once the shops finally opened, I decided to take a walk around and see if I can get any good deals. Surprisingly, I found a new pair of sneakers! My current ones are dying – well they are almost ten years old 😂 (I told you I’m an underbuyer!) – and I’ve been on the lookout for a replacement pair for a few months now. Happy days 😊
And then in the evening, I decided to watch Frozen. I’m not a fan of animated films in general, but I thought I’d give this one a chance. And I’m glad I did: I actually ended up enjoying it more than I expected to! It’s been good catching up on all these movies, I should try and do this more often 😊
We had a good Latin lesson today: we did Samba, which feels like it’s improving – until our teacher filmed it for us. Bleurghhh! It definitely feels better than it looks! 😞 I’d rather it the other way around! That is, looking better than it feels. Coz at least it doesn’t hurt the audience’s eyes that way! 😂 Oh well. I read this quote on the interweb today: “I am always doing what I cannot do yet, in order to learn how to do it” – Vincent Van Gogh. Pretty much sums up my life!
And then we actually lasted for the whole two-hour Ballroom practice session. Normally we die about 3/4 of the way through, but today I somehow managed to tough it out. Probably because we weren’t running through entire routines, and just focusing on sections of each dance. But it was good. Sometimes you just need to break it down like that, and work on the technique.
We decided to go to Changi City Point afterwards, a mall with a lot of discount outlets, to check out a sale at 2XU. It’s a pretty cool mall! We’ll have to come back another time, when we have a bit more time and energy to walk around. Coz today, after three hours of dancing, we were just ready to go home.
And then we watched The Lost World: Jurassic Park, the second movie in the Jurassic Park series. It’s the first time I’d seen it, and I definitely haven’t missed out on anything all these years 😂 It was terribly disappointing, after watching the first one, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Oh well. Two down, two to go. Hopefully we can squeeze the third one in sometime this week. Ooo, Tuesday is a public holiday here, so maybe we can watch it then 😊
So that was a disappointing way to end the weekend, but overall, it was still a good one 👍
