Balance

I decided to go and have cake at Lady M today, and noticed that they had osmanthus tea on their menu. I had never even heard of this tea before we moved to HK, and now I see it everywhere. It’s in sooo many things here. The funny thing for me is that I actually find the Chinese word for osmanthus (桂花 guì huā) even with tones easier to say than ‘osmanthus’! It’s such a tongue twister! So today, I ordered and said pretty much this: “Can I have the pistachio mille crepe and can I try the 桂花茶?” 😂 She had to repeat the tea to make sure she got my order right, as I probably threw her off by mixing English and Chinese 🤣

The fun and enjoyable time I had at Lady M was then soon wiped out by a shite trading session 😔 You’d think I’d learn by now, but no, I keep repeating the same damn mistakes over and over 😒

I took out my frustration at the gym and had a pretty good session there tonight. I did a few Jive kicks, which were a real killer, but definitely something that I need to do more often to help boost my stamina. I should end each gym session with one song’s worth of Jive kicks. And then work my way up to two songs, then three songs, then who knows how many songs! 😆

I’ve actually been so focussed on my goals lately that I have barely had the chance to go on the usual social media sites, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc. I should make an effort to log in more often, and get the latest on what’s happening in the lives of my family and friends. I tend to be all or nothing when it comes to my goals, but I think a more balanced approach would be better and more sustainable over the longer-term. But with my detailed schedule now and achieving a good momentum with my goals, I feel like all the progress is just feeding itself and I just want more of it! 😆

Routine

I miss the sun ☀️ It feels like I haven’t seen it in aaages… It’s been cloudy and foggy for so long now, I can’t wait for the sun to make an appearance. Not just to brighten my mood, but also to warm things up! It’s not too cold anyhow – it feels more like autumn here than winter, really – I just prefer warmer weather in general. Which is precisely why I miss my SG all-year-round summer! 😔

My cold is still lingering around too, which is terribly annoying. I want to start my routine of going to the gym again, but I’m waiting until I’m better before I start getting back into it, otherwise I can see myself getting sick all over again 😔

It was a pretty uneventful day for me. I spent most of the day on my trading: the library book that I borrowed yesterday is a trading textbook of sorts, so I’m making way through that. I also watched a few episodes of About Time, my current Korean drama, which I’m really enjoying. And I also got back onto social media (My Non-Foodie Life) and posted a few things for the first time in a while. I’ve been busy entertaining family and friends these past few weeks that I lost whatever semblance of a routine that I had before, so I’m trying to get back into it now. So rather than “uneventful”, instead I should perhaps describe my day as “routine” 😊

Weird sh*t coming out of my mouth

In complete contrast to yesterday, today I was full of energy. No idea how that happened! I was like the Energizer Bunny today, constantly on the go go go! I wish I was pumped with energy like this every day. Must be how kids feel all the time without needing caffeine 😂

Ah caffeine. I think that’s what gave me all my energy! I remember now: I had a large cup of tea from Heeretea, this bubble tea shop here in HK. I wonder how many non-Chinese speaking people actually walk in there, because the guy who served me today looked nervous as hell having to converse with me in English 😂 Welcome to my world, dude! You’re probably feeling what I’m feeling whenever I have to pull out my limited Mandarin! 🤣 I ordered in English, and he had to look over at the menu to check that he had entered my order correctly. I probably could’ve said my order in Chinese because I could actually read it for once, but instead “this one” in Mandarin came out of my mouth 😆 It’s so hilarious how the weirdest stuff comes out of my mouth when it comes to Chinese. I don’t have the same problem with Japanese. That language comes much more easily to me in comparison! But I’ve known the basics of that language for a lot longer than Chinese, so it’s not really a fair comparison.

We got our shower curtain shortened at an alteration place, and I picked it up today. The woman gave me a nice plastic bag, but as I mentioned in an earlier post, I’m used to carrying my own shopping bag now, so I didn’t need theirs. Plus I figured they would re-use it much more than I would, so it made more sense for them to keep it. So I returned it to them. But what came out of my mouth as I gave the bag back to her wasn’t quite as eloquent as that, of course: I said “not ours”. That’s it! OMG. I didn’t even construct a full sentence 😆 Although complete sentences aren’t entirely necessary in Chinese conversation, so what I did say was probably ok. In any case, she did give me this bewildered look, which I didn’t quite understand. Was it because she was surprised I could speak Mandarin, even if it was broken? Or was it because I sounded so weird that she was taken aback, not having heard anyone with that weirdo accent before? Or maybe because native Chinese speakers would never actually say what I said? Was it because I greeted her with “hello” in English and then suddenly reverted to Mandarin? Was it because she herself doesn’t understand Mandarin?? Perhaps a combination of all of these things?? 😆 Nonetheless, they did a nice job with the shower curtain, and it now fits perfectly in our bathroom 😊

And then I spent the evening looking at Instagram and Pinterest photos for interior design and storage ideas. They’re good sources for ideas and inspiration, since I am pretty hopeless with that sort of stuff. While I was on social media, N half watched Legion (this looks interesting!) and half slept, as he’s still quite sick 🤒 Bizarro world, as normally I’m the one who’s sick and he’s the one running around with all the endless energy! But Legion sounds interesting, I may have to catch up on the first few episodes that he saw tonight!

All about the home

We had a lazy Sunday today, just hanging out in our new apartment, continuing to put things in their rightful place – and also trying to figure out where these rightful places are! 😂 Even though the apartment is actually smaller than our SG apartment, the layout of the apartment actually makes it feel bigger. I think it’s longer, so when I am at one end of the apartment and N is on the other, I actually find it quite hard to hear him! We certainly didn’t have this problem in SG! 😲 So maybe this apartment is longer and thinner than our SG apartment, giving the illusion that we have more space than we actually do, and it also feels like there’s more privacy as a result. I do like the way it’s been designed, I liked it the first time we saw it. I like the cross ventilation throughout the apartment, as we only effectively share one wall with a neighbour, so three sides of the apartment has windows to allow fresh air to come in – “fresh” being rather subjective, obviously 😆 We don’t have a clothes dryer in this apartment, so the air circulation will come in handy when we’re drying clothes in the apartment!

We also looked at storage ideas online, mainly at IKEA, of course 😆 Both cupboards / cabinets, as well as storage containers for smaller stuff in the bathroom. Instagram and Pinterest are also good to get some ideas. Social media can be put to good use at times too 👍

My focus has been the home these past few weeks, so I can’t wait until we can finish the larger aspects of this project, so then I can move on to my other goals! It is December already, how did that happen?? 😲 So I will start reviewing the past year soon, and also get myself ready for 2019. I need to have a think about what my goals will be for next year: which ones will flow out of this year’s ones; which ones failed miserably (finance is the standout here 😔) and how I can get them back on track; and which ones I just want to change completely. I do like to review and plan, so I always enjoy doing this exercise at this time of year 😊

But first, it’s still all about the home for a little while yet…! 😂

Instagram update

I came across this mum on Instagram, sumpermommyof123, and she puts an entertaining spin on the joys of motherhood. I’m not a mum (well, not to a human), but even I find her posts quite amusing, so actual mums may appreciate her that much more. Anyway, just spreading the love 💕

Speaking of Instagram, I have created mynonfoodielife, to complement my My Non-Foodie Life blog. The whole project has been good, actually. It that been getting me to actually try new recipes as well as go to different restaurants, so that I have different blog posts to write and photos to upload; and I’m not cooking the same things over and over again, and going to the same places and ordering the same things off the same menu each time, like I normally would 😆

I surprised N at the airport today, I didn’t tell him I was going to meet him there 😊 Well, it helps that Changi is such an awesome place to go and visit, even when one isn’t travelling! It’s a destination in itself 😊 And it’s even better when you are travelling, as they have all the good stuff in the transit areas. Ah Changi, I’m gonna miss you 😘

Day T-56 today…
