An ordinary Thursday, with a flight thrown in

I went to bed really late last night (about 3am 😲), because I was all keen bean and full of energy. But maybe it was more nervous energy, because I just wanted to get stuff done last night before I flew out today πŸ˜‚

And then the fire alarm went off just before 6am. Whether it was in our building or the building next door, I couldn’t tell. I was half asleep! All I could think about was hoping that it was a false alarm because I really didn’t want to get out of bed and evacuate, if it was indeed a genuine fire and that it was in our building and not next door. But a few seconds later, it switched off and I breathed a sigh of relief πŸ˜… I could go back to sleep and get a few more hours’ sleep this morning.

I woke up once every hour, though, until my alarm went off at 9am, so it wasn’t the most restful of sleeps. But I knew I had things to do today, including cleaning up the last few things around the house before I flew out later tonight, so the energy still magically came from somewhere.

I did go to the vet and to the FX seminar, so it was as normal a Thursday as I could make it. Except all the house preparation and final packing. And the worst part of travelling: leaving Kitty. I was actually late to the airport because I didn’t want to leave her all alone. I was hoping to sneak out when she was asleep, but that didn’t work out as I had hoped. Instead, she watched me leave the house, looking all sad and forlorn πŸ˜”

So I didn’t have much time at the airport this time. I bought some Irvin’s Salted Egg chips for N’s colleagues, entered a competition currently being held at Changi, and then it was time to head to my gate already. I didn’t get the chance to shop or visit the Butterfly Garden. But that’s ok, I wanted to maximise my time with Kitty, and I accomplished that 😊

I discovered on board that you can now link your seat to the SingaporeAir app! How cool is that?! I was wishing this exact same thing just a few flights ago, being able to access your playlist just by knowing where you’re sitting on any Singapore Airlines plane. I have to figure out how to use it properly though, as it wasn’t quite syncing for me on this flight. I compiled a playlist on my phone, but I couldn’t access it from my seat. However the playlist I compiled on board, I could control on my phone. So maybe it’s only a one-way street at the moment, seat monitor to phone, and not vice versa? I’ll link again on my return flight home, and see what happens then.

On the flight, I watched this Chinese variety show to help improve my listening. I chose this particular one coz Dwayne Johnson was a guest on the episode that they were showing on board! πŸ˜† He was promoting his Jumanji movie, but it was good to see him mucking around and joining in the challenges and activities on the show. I couldn’t really follow what some of the challenges were, which made me even more determined to get my Chinese to a level where I can at least get the gist.

I landed safely, albeit a little late. I still managed to get to the hotel by train, as I think trains operate until 1am in HK. Freaking awesome! I hope I can get a good night’s sleep tonight, as I am feeling rather spent right now!

Spent my morning QUEUING

First mission of the day: get some Irvins salted egg chips! 😊 I got to their Orchard Gateway outlet at 9:50am, a bit later than I had planned. And there was NO queue! They open at 10am, but there was already a guy there, so I asked him if they were open. He said yes, but said that there’s a queue that I need to join. He looked over behind him and pointed at the queue. Apparently the queue snakes outside! Omg. So much for no queue. Very misleading, Irvin! πŸ˜’

This is not my ideal way of spending a morning! Especially outside! These freaking chips better be worth it! πŸ˜‚ Plus I was just grumpy at the time I was in the queue: I hadn’t had my morning coffee yet!

After almost an hour in the queue – and most of that time waiting outside, mind you – I finally got my hands on a few of these babies:

I waited for almost an hour for this!!

Actually, these chips are gifts, so I’m not even going to get to find out what all the fuss is about! I’ll have to queue up for a second time to get a packet (or three 😊) for myself. Argh!

I was in yet another queue later in the morning, at Crabtree & Evelyn this time, and two separate people actually asked me where I bought my Irvins Salted Egg chips. They’re damn popular, I tell you! They were so excited to find out that they had an outlet nearby. Gotta try these soon to find out what all the fuss is about.

While I was in that Crabtree & Evelyn queue, someone came up to me and asked me something in Chinese. Since my listening skills are so bad, all I got was something-something-δ»€δΉˆ πŸ˜‚ couple with his hand gesticulation, I assume he was asking what we were all queuing up for. I said “to pay” in English, but he didn’t seem to understand that. So I tried in Chinese – well, what I think “to pay” is in Chinese (δ»˜ι’±?). That seemed to have come across better… although I still wonder if I said the right thing and/or if he understood my dodgy Chinese 🀣🀣

Kitty got picked up this afternoon for her own holiday πŸ˜” always sad to say goodbye to her. It’s the worst part about going on holidays πŸ˜”

So without Kitty in the house, I tidied up her food and litter areas, and tidied up the house in general. I always like having the house quite orderly before we go on holidays. I did a bit of trading while I was doing this, which is never a good idea! I don’t know why I even bothered. I need my full focus to trade (and even then, sometimes it doesn’t even help!), and being half switched on meant I took really bad trades. Sighhhh… Lesson learnt!

We had our Ballroom lesson as per usual in the evening. Quickstep today. We need to remember this routine! This is always one of the dances that we dance at competitions, so we need do dance it, unfortunately hahaha it’s my least favourite Ballroom dance. On par with Jive in Latin. Need to take notes, so I don’t forget everything while we’re in Japan!

Gotta get to bed early tonight. Planning to wake up at 6am tomorrow, to get to the airport well in time for our flight! Excitement! ✈️ Goodnight!

Travelling light… hopefully with some Irvins Salted Egg chips!

I packed my luggage for Japan today. I can’t believe I’m travelling so light!Β  I am effectively going with just carry on 😲 At the moment, my bag isn’t even hitting 4kg!Β  I’m travelling so light that it’s actually starting to freak me out a little!Β  I’ve never travelled with so little on me!Β  Is it going to be enough?Β  Will any clothes that I wash dry in time?Β  It will be getting into their winter, so things won’t necessarily dry as quickly.Β  And will I be warm enough? Well whatever happens, it will make for an interesting story!Β  lol

Excluding what I will be wearing on the plane, this is what I will be bringing with me:

  • 3 tops
  • 3 bottoms
  • PJs
  • Sneakers
  • 4 pairs of socks
  • 2 scarves
  • A pair of gloves
  • A small cross body bag (still undecided whether I will bring this or not)
  • Puffy jacket (or maybe I’ll just wear this on board the plane)

Still to be packed:

  • Toiletries
  • Underwear
  • iPad

And then I’ll have my usual paraphernalia in my handbag.Β  That’s actually not too bad!Β  Let’s see how we go…. hehehe

Today was my last working day before we go on our holiday!!Β  I am going to run a few last-minute errands tomorrow, including seeing whether I can get my hands on some of these snacks:

For some reason, I am yet to find out why, these chips are incredibly popular, and sell out very quickly each day.Β  And once they’ve sold out for the day, that’s it, you have to try your luck again the following day.Β  So I’m curious to find out what all the fuss is about!Β  All their shop outlets open at 10am, so I’m going to try and rock up at 9:30am tomorrow and see if I can get myself a bag or two. The queue better not be horrendous and I end up missing out!
