Balance

I decided to go and have cake at Lady M today, and noticed that they had osmanthus tea on their menu. I had never even heard of this tea before we moved to HK, and now I see it everywhere. It’s in sooo many things here. The funny thing for me is that I actually find the Chinese word for osmanthus (桂花 guì huā) even with tones easier to say than ‘osmanthus’! It’s such a tongue twister! So today, I ordered and said pretty much this: “Can I have the pistachio mille crepe and can I try the 桂花茶?” 😂 She had to repeat the tea to make sure she got my order right, as I probably threw her off by mixing English and Chinese 🤣

The fun and enjoyable time I had at Lady M was then soon wiped out by a shite trading session 😔 You’d think I’d learn by now, but no, I keep repeating the same damn mistakes over and over 😒

I took out my frustration at the gym and had a pretty good session there tonight. I did a few Jive kicks, which were a real killer, but definitely something that I need to do more often to help boost my stamina. I should end each gym session with one song’s worth of Jive kicks. And then work my way up to two songs, then three songs, then who knows how many songs! 😆

I’ve actually been so focussed on my goals lately that I have barely had the chance to go on the usual social media sites, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc. I should make an effort to log in more often, and get the latest on what’s happening in the lives of my family and friends. I tend to be all or nothing when it comes to my goals, but I think a more balanced approach would be better and more sustainable over the longer-term. But with my detailed schedule now and achieving a good momentum with my goals, I feel like all the progress is just feeding itself and I just want more of it! 😆

Changes because of HK

We had a Latin lesson today. Our teacher asked to see all four dances, and I was thinking “pffft, yeah right! You’ll be lucky to see two today, before your eyes start hurting from our terrible dancing and you’re going to spend the next hour fixing just the first dance” 😂

But surprisingly, we got through all four dances! 😲 That was surely a first. We barely touched Rumba, he seemed happiest with that; Cha Cha and Jive were also not too bad; and he just really wanted to work mainly on Samba today. I guess he knows we can only do so much before our next competition, so he’s just fixing the blatantly obvious bad bits 😆 Sigh, we have to find another Latin teacher yet again when we get to HK…

We had a few friends come over for some drinks this afternoon. We were hoping to get through the whiskeys that we have, since we probably can’t take them with us to HK. But our friends aren’t big drinkers, so we barely got through any of the whiskeys! Argh! 😂 So I think we’ll be drinking a fair bit of whiskey between now and takeoff. Today is T-54…

And then in the evening, we watched the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing. They’re showing it here! 👏 Tonight was the first and second episodes. It’s the first time I’ve seen the British version, and it’s quite a fun series! The judges are harsh but fair, so I actually like that, it’s quite “refreshing”. If they dance poorly, the judges won’t have an issue giving them a score anywhere from 1-3 out of 10 😲 Their feedback is honest, so overall, I think the contestants are getting judged really well. And there’s a ton of celebrities on the show too! The show’s been going for years now, and they still manage to find celebrities each season, so they’re obviously doing something right 👍

I also found out that there’s this show called Casualty, which seems like a British Home and Away ie a drama that’s been part of the country’s landscape for donkey’s years. According to IMDb, it’s actually been going for slightly longer than Home and Away! 😲 Crazy stuff.

So we’re enjoying the British version, and we’ll probably watch it right up until we leave SG. Let’s see what tv shows we get to see in HK in a few months’ time…! 😒

Good stress and unnecessary stress

Trading started off on a crappy note today, and I was basically cursing at the computer, feeing terribly annoyed with everything. Kitty must’ve felt it because she quickly snuck off and never came back again. I went looking for her a while later, and when I went into the bathroom, I noticed poo in the middle of the floor and some faeces smeared across it too. Faaantastic. That sight pretty much summed up my trading so far today.

But then that annoyance quickly turned to worry that something was wrong with Kitty, since smearing faeces across the floor isn’t normal for her. So i was determined more than ever to find her. She hides when she’s not well, and of course she won’t make a sound when she’s hiding – it sorta defeats the purpose! So I just went looking for her in all her usual hiding spots. And I couldn’t find her! Note that we live in like a teeny tiny apartment that’s like 800sqft (70 odd sqm), so it’s not like she has that many places to hide! But she still somehow manages to hide really well.

I eventually found her: sleeping in N’s closet! I left the door open because earlier she was curious as to what was inside. She was right up the back of the closet, completely hiding her face. I didn’t want to disturb her if she really was sick; but at the same time I also wanted to know if she was, so I can figure out whether or not to make an extra visit to the vet this week.

After a few hours, she did come out, miaowing for dinner as she normally does. I guess she’s ok then! So then my worry turned to guilt, because now I feel like my outburst at the computer / markets earlier might have stressed her out, causing the poop incident in the bathroom. Sighhhh… Poor Kitty. So that was a lesson learnt: outbursts help no one, and they may cause unnecessary stress in pets 😞

And then I went to the gym in the evening. I had all this energy, I still have no idea where it came from 😆 I ended up doing 10 minutes on the elliptical, did some weights, and for some reason I still had more energy to spare, so I did another 10 minutes on the elliptical. I think the elliptical will be good for Jive: your legs have a bit of an upward motion as the elliptical makes its way around, which is what you need in Jive. So a good Jive was my motivation to keep pushing on that machine. My least favourite Latin dance was motivating me to work harder on the elliptical. Who woulda thunk?!? 🤪

And then I finished T-6 with an episode of Downton Abbey. The episode was hilarious! I’m getting to know all the characters better, so I’m getting into the story more and more. The seasons are very short, so I think I’ll get through this series relatively quickly. But I still have a while yet 😊

Ten dance, here we come!

Dance-wise, things are feeling like they’re slowly improving for me. All eight (!!) choreographies are feeling like they’re coming together. Total amaze balls, I still can’t believe it. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like all eight routines are concurrently coming together 😂 I feel that Latin is always ahead of Ballroom, and have described Ballroom as Latin’s poor cousin. Now I feel like Ballroom is finally catching up. Maybe this is truly the year for ten dance for us… 👍

Although having said that, I just watched a video of our Jive today – blahhhh!! 😩 That’s obviously a work in progress 🤣

And then tonight, we decided to try this new Chinese restaurant down the road. I’ve been reluctant to try it out, as the place just doesn’t seem too inviting, but I’m glad we did, coz it was actually quite nice 👍

Not a bad way to end the week 😊 Now let’s see what the trading week brings next week… I did get to review my trades last week. Shocking. I don’t even know why I took some (most?) of the trades 😲 I want to do better this coming week.

Losing weight and my “favourite” dances

Kitty and I went to the vet again this morning. She’s been eating quite a fair bit, more so than she used to, but when the vet weighed her today, she hasn’t gained any weight, and hasn’t gotten back any of the weight that she lost while we were away late last year. I hope there isn’t something else wrong with her 😔 As per usual, we just have to keep monitoring her to see how she goes over the next few weeks. Poor little one.

And then in the evening, we did a bit of dance practice, again focusing on my two “favourite” dances, Quickstep and Jive. Can you believe it: after I was complaining last night about how we just can’t do this particular section of the choreography to music, we were getting pretty damn close today! I was so excited! 👏 It’s not great dancing, but at least it’s a step in the right direction, that’s the important thing. Hopefully it’ll all be good by mid-March, when our next comp is – which isn’t all that far away! 😲

Being a dancing tourist

It was a pretty chilled day. I caught up with my friends for lunch at Suntec City, my friends who flew in from Sydney yesterday. And then we walked over to Marina Bay Sands and headed up to the viewing deck up on L56. You get an awesome view of Gardens by the Bay from up there, so purteee…

We then wandered around the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and caught a lion dance! They were “blessing” (is that how you describe it?!) one of the stores, and we stuck around and watched the whole performance. Always quite fun to watch 😊

And we finished the evening with our usual dancing. Jive is still so damn fast… sighhh… As much as I like a particular section (and the fact that I even like a section is impressive), we may have to change that part of the choreography. Which is a bit sad, because I rarely (if ever) use the word like to describe Jive! 😂 And if we can’t get this section up to speed, then we just have to replace it. But in the meantime, we just have to keep working on it…

The complete opposite to yesterday

It was a pretty damn good day for a Wednesday, and perhaps the complete opposite to yesterday! 👍

Trading: I was totally in sync with the market. I missed a few entries, but even then, I didn’t dwell on missing out, I actually just moved on. I followed my plan consistently probably for the first time ever. If only every day was like today!

Dancing: We worked on Waltz and Quickstep in our lesson today. Even our teacher agrees that our Quickstep is atrocious 😂 Although he would never actually say that, it wouldn’t be very professional! But we can read between the lines… 😉

And then we spent two hours afterwards practising mainly Quickstep and Jive, my two “favourite” dances 😩 I asked for a Jive song that I liked, and so we had Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off on repeat 🤣 It makes such a difference for me when I like the song. It’s like the song gives me energy, and it makes it that much more enjoyable to dance.

Mum’s birthday: Unfortunately I couldn’t get through to her today when I tried to ring her, but apparently they went out tonight to celebrate her birthday, which I thought was really nice. I’m glad that they went out and did something nice for her birthday 🎂

Chinese: A friend replied back to something I asked her on Facebook – in Chinese. I thought it would take me forever to read it, but when I actually focussed and gave it a go, I was pleasantly surprised that I could make out what she was saying, even though I didn’t know each and every word in her message. My basics are getting strong enough that I can start to get a feel for the meaning of new words now! Plus I could read about 90% of the characters! 😲 I was very surprised. Some stuff is apparently seeping into the grey matter, after all 😂

Time out: And we finished off the day with another episode of Game of Thrones. Halfway through season two now.

It was an awesome day 👍
