Together, apart, and then back together again

We did a bit of shopping today, and the shops now have their winter gear out on sale. Greeeat… My favourite season will soon be coming to an end ๐Ÿ˜” So I focussed on stocking up on cold weather gear, as I felt like I was severely lacking on this front last winter. But we did just arrive from SINGAPORE, the place with an endless summer. So my wardrobe was definitely more tropical more than anything else when we first arrived in this city. I had to quickly stock up on a few winter items when we finally settled in ๐Ÿ˜†

N then headed back to the office again to do some more work ๐Ÿ˜” And so I decided to continue with my TEFL course, and prepare yet another lesson plan! They’re quite time consuming for me to do, firstly because I don’t really know what I’m doing, so I constantly have to refer to my notes; and secondly, I’m not very creative, so I’m constantly racking my brain trying to come up with fun and interesting things to do in class! But it’s a new skill, so I have to be patient with myself ๐Ÿ˜Š So I probably spent twice as long preparing this lesson plan as it would take me to teach the damn lesson! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I can’t wait until I get this skill under my belt!

And then we headed down to the gym once N got back from the office. I did another round of Jive kicks ๐Ÿฆต They are still an absolute killer. I don’t know how many rounds of Jive I have to do until this gets easier, coz at the moment, they’re still torture! ๐Ÿ˜–

To give you a bit of an idea of what it is that I’m doing, check out the first five seconds of this video on YouTube. He’s doing it mega fast, and doing a fancy double kick – not to mention dancing really nicely as well! – but hopefully you get the gist. Now imagine doing that for an entire 3.5-minute song, and you get the self-inflicted torture that I’m putting myself through. And I’m certainly not looking as fresh and excited as he does in the video! ๐Ÿ˜‚ So now my legs feel really heavy, and my whole body is sore from the whole session at the gym. I guess looking at it positively, you could say that I had a very successful session today! ๐Ÿ˜œ

Incessant beeping and vomit didnโ€™t stop me

I had yet another crappy night’s sleep, sighhh ๐Ÿ˜” The aircon in our bedroom is on the blink, and last night it kept switching itself on and off – even after I had switched it off. It kept beeping every time it switched itself on, so it wasn’t the fact that it was warm in the room without the aircon on that kept me up, but all the incessant beeping! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

And because I was half awake already, I heard Kitty throw up while all this beeping was happening ๐Ÿคฎ I couldn’t just let her vomit fester on the floor or rug or wherever she threw up, so I went to clean up her mess as well.

Eventually, the aircon somehow sorted itself out. It finally decided to stay on for the rest of the night, so I ended up getting some sleep sometime after 3am ๐Ÿ˜’

As a result of the crappy night’s sleep, I did struggle to stay awake during the day, so I had some tea in the afternoon, which seemed to have helped. I actually ended up having a more productive day than I thought I would ๐Ÿ‘

And then in the evening, I headed down to the gym. I did another round of Jive kicks while I was there, building up my stamina and working my legs ๐Ÿฆต I’ll probably feel it tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜‚ We’re going out for dinner tomorrow night, so I wanted to get a workout in beforehand (and hopefully afterwards too, on Sunday ๐Ÿ˜Š)

And then we watched another episode of Lucifer to round out the evening. It ended up being quite a productive Friday, so I’m happy ๐Ÿ˜Š

Crappy sleep

I had the crappiest sleep last night. I went to bed sometime after 2:30am, as caffeine must have still been running through my system after I had green tea late in the afternoon yesterday ๐Ÿ˜’

Little Miss wakes me up a few hours later, scratching at one of the doors. And then a few hours later after that, N’s alarm goes off ๐Ÿ˜’ I couldn’t really get back to sleep when his alarm went off, so I just go up and started my day early. And surprisingly, I managed to stay awake the entire day!

I did some Jive at the gym tonight. I partly wanted to get some cardio in, but my main reason though, was to exhaust myself so that I could get a good night’s sleep tonight to make up for last night! Let’s see how well my plan goes ๐Ÿ˜† I’m feeling pretty knackered now, so hopefully my plan will indeed work out… ๐Ÿคž

I decided to go and have cake at Lady M today, and noticed that they had osmanthus tea on their menu. I had never even heard of this tea before we moved to HK, and now I see it everywhere. It’s in sooo many things here. The funny thing for me is that I actually find the Chinese word for osmanthus (ๆก‚่Šฑ guรฌ huฤ) even with tones easier to say than ‘osmanthus’! It’s such a tongue twister! So today, I ordered and said pretty much this: โ€œCan I have the pistachio mille crepe and can I try the ๆก‚่Šฑ่Œถ?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚ She had to repeat the tea to make sure she got my order right, as I probably threw her off by mixing English and Chinese ๐Ÿคฃ

The fun and enjoyable time I had at Lady M was then soon wiped out by a shite trading session ๐Ÿ˜” You’d think I’d learn by now, but no, I keep repeating the same damn mistakes over and over ๐Ÿ˜’

I took out my frustration at the gym and had a pretty good session there tonight. I did a few Jive kicks, which were a real killer, but definitely something that I need to do more often to help boost my stamina. I should end each gym session with one song’s worth of Jive kicks. And then work my way up to two songs, then three songs, then who knows how many songs! ๐Ÿ˜†

I’ve actually been so focussed on my goals lately that I have barely had the chance to go on the usual social media sites, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc. I should make an effort to log in more often, and get the latest on what’s happening in the lives of my family and friends. I tend to be all or nothing when it comes to my goals, but I think a more balanced approach would be better and more sustainable over the longer-term. But with my detailed schedule now and achieving a good momentum with my goals, I feel like all the progress is just feeding itself and I just want more of it! ๐Ÿ˜†

Changes because of HK

We had a Latin lesson today. Our teacher asked to see all four dances, and I was thinking “pffft, yeah right! You’ll be lucky to see two today, before your eyes start hurting from our terrible dancing and you’re going to spend the next hour fixing just the first dance” ๐Ÿ˜‚

But surprisingly, we got through all four dances! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ That was surely a first. We barely touched Rumba, he seemed happiest with that; Cha Cha and Jive were also not too bad; and he just really wanted to work mainly on Samba today. I guess he knows we can only do so much before our next competition, so he’s just fixing the blatantly obvious bad bits ๐Ÿ˜† Sigh, we have to find another Latin teacher yet again when we get to HK…

We had a few friends come over for some drinks this afternoon. We were hoping to get through the whiskeys that we have, since we probably can’t take them with us to HK. But our friends aren’t big drinkers, so we barely got through any of the whiskeys! Argh! ๐Ÿ˜‚ So I think we’ll be drinking a fair bit of whiskey between now and takeoff. Today is T-54…

And then in the evening, we watched the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing. They’re showing it here! ๐Ÿ‘ Tonight was the first and second episodes. It’s the first time I’ve seen the British version, and it’s quite a fun series! The judges are harsh but fair, so I actually like that, it’s quite “refreshing”. If they dance poorly, the judges won’t have an issue giving them a score anywhere from 1-3 out of 10 ๐Ÿ˜ฒ Their feedback is honest, so overall, I think the contestants are getting judged really well. And there’s a ton of celebrities on the show too! The show’s been going for years now, and they still manage to find celebrities each season, so they’re obviously doing something right ๐Ÿ‘

I also found out that there’s this show called Casualty, which seems like a British Home and Away ie a drama that’s been part of the country’s landscape for donkey’s years. According to IMDb, it’s actually been going for slightly longer than Home and Away! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ Crazy stuff.

So we’re enjoying the British version, and we’ll probably watch it right up until we leave SG. Let’s see what tv shows we get to see in HK in a few months’ time…! ๐Ÿ˜’

Good stress and unnecessary stress

Trading started off on a crappy note today, and I was basically cursing at the computer, feeing terribly annoyed with everything. Kitty must’ve felt it because she quickly snuck off and never came back again. I went looking for her a while later, and when I went into the bathroom, I noticed poo in the middle of the floor and some faeces smeared across it too. Faaantastic. That sight pretty much summed up my trading so far today.

But then that annoyance quickly turned to worry that something was wrong with Kitty, since smearing faeces across the floor isn’t normal for her. So i was determined more than ever to find her. She hides when she’s not well, and of course she won’t make a sound when she’s hiding – it sorta defeats the purpose! So I just went looking for her in all her usual hiding spots. And I couldn’t find her! Note that we live in like a teeny tiny apartment that’s like 800sqft (70 odd sqm), so it’s not like she has that many places to hide! But she still somehow manages to hide really well.

I eventually found her: sleeping in N’s closet! I left the door open because earlier she was curious as to what was inside. She was right up the back of the closet, completely hiding her face. I didn’t want to disturb her if she really was sick; but at the same time I also wanted to know if she was, so I can figure out whether or not to make an extra visit to the vet this week.

After a few hours, she did come out, miaowing for dinner as she normally does. I guess she’s ok then! So then my worry turned to guilt, because now I feel like my outburst at the computer / markets earlier might have stressed her out, causing the poop incident in the bathroom. Sighhhh… Poor Kitty. So that was a lesson learnt: outbursts help no one, and they may cause unnecessary stress in pets ๐Ÿ˜ž

And then I went to the gym in the evening. I had all this energy, I still have no idea where it came from ๐Ÿ˜† I ended up doing 10 minutes on the elliptical, did some weights, and for some reason I still had more energy to spare, so I did another 10 minutes on the elliptical. I think the elliptical will be good for Jive: your legs have a bit of an upward motion as the elliptical makes its way around, which is what you need in Jive. So a good Jive was my motivation to keep pushing on that machine. My least favourite Latin dance was motivating me to work harder on the elliptical. Who woulda thunk?!? ๐Ÿคช

And then I finished T-6 with an episode of Downton Abbey. The episode was hilarious! I’m getting to know all the characters better, so I’m getting into the story more and more. The seasons are very short, so I think I’ll get through this series relatively quickly. But I still have a while yet ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ten dance, here we come!

Dance-wise, things are feeling like they’re slowly improving for me. All eight (!!) choreographies are feeling like they’re coming together. Total amaze balls, I still can’t believe it. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like all eight routines are concurrently coming together ๐Ÿ˜‚ I feel that Latin is always ahead of Ballroom, and have described Ballroom as Latin’s poor cousin. Now I feel like Ballroom is finally catching up. Maybe this is truly the year for ten dance for us… ๐Ÿ‘

Although having said that, I just watched a video of our Jive today – blahhhh!! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ That’s obviously a work in progress ๐Ÿคฃ

And then tonight, we decided to try this new Chinese restaurant down the road. I’ve been reluctant to try it out, as the place just doesn’t seem too inviting, but I’m glad we did, coz it was actually quite nice ๐Ÿ‘

Not a bad way to end the week ๐Ÿ˜Š Now let’s see what the trading week brings next week… I did get to review my trades last week. Shocking. I don’t even know why I took some (most?) of the trades ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I want to do better this coming week.

Losing weight and my โ€œfavouriteโ€ dances

Kitty and I went to the vet again this morning. She’s been eating quite a fair bit, more so than she used to, but when the vet weighed her today, she hasn’t gained any weight, and hasn’t gotten back any of the weight that she lost while we were away late last year. I hope there isn’t something else wrong with her ๐Ÿ˜” As per usual, we just have to keep monitoring her to see how she goes over the next few weeks. Poor little one.

And then in the evening, we did a bit of dance practice, again focusing on my two “favourite” dances, Quickstep and Jive. Can you believe it: after I was complaining last night about how we just can’t do this particular section of the choreography to music, we were getting pretty damn close today! I was so excited! ๐Ÿ‘ It’s not great dancing, but at least it’s a step in the right direction, that’s the important thing. Hopefully it’ll all be good by mid-March, when our next comp is – which isn’t all that far away! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Being a dancing tourist

It was a pretty chilled day. I caught up with my friends for lunch at Suntec City, my friends who flew in from Sydney yesterday. And then we walked over to Marina Bay Sands and headed up to the viewing deck up on L56. You get an awesome view of Gardens by the Bay from up there, so purteee…

We then wandered around the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands and caught a lion dance! They were “blessing” (is that how you describe it?!) one of the stores, and we stuck around and watched the whole performance. Always quite fun to watch ๐Ÿ˜Š

And we finished the evening with our usual dancing. Jive is still so damn fast… sighhh… As much as I like a particular section (and the fact that I even like a section is impressive), we may have to change that part of the choreography. Which is a bit sad, because I rarely (if ever) use the word like to describe Jive! ๐Ÿ˜‚ And if we can’t get this section up to speed, then we just have to replace it. But in the meantime, we just have to keep working on it…

The complete opposite to yesterday

It was a pretty damn good day for a Wednesday, and perhaps the complete opposite to yesterday! ๐Ÿ‘

Trading: I was totally in sync with the market. I missed a few entries, but even then, I didn’t dwell on missing out, I actually just moved on. I followed my plan consistently probably for the first time ever. If only every day was like today!

Dancing: We worked on Waltz and Quickstep in our lesson today. Even our teacher agrees that our Quickstep is atrocious ๐Ÿ˜‚ Although he would never actually say that, it wouldn’t be very professional! But we can read between the lines… ๐Ÿ˜‰

And then we spent two hours afterwards practising mainly Quickstep and Jive, my two “favourite” dances ๐Ÿ˜ฉ I asked for a Jive song that I liked, and so we had Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off on repeat ๐Ÿคฃ It makes such a difference for me when I like the song. It’s like the song gives me energy, and it makes it that much more enjoyable to dance.

Mum’s birthday: Unfortunately I couldn’t get through to her today when I tried to ring her, but apparently they went out tonight to celebrate her birthday, which I thought was really nice. I’m glad that they went out and did something nice for her birthday ๐ŸŽ‚

Chinese: A friend replied back to something I asked her on Facebook – in Chinese. I thought it would take me forever to read it, but when I actually focussed and gave it a go, I was pleasantly surprised that I could make out what she was saying, even though I didn’t know each and every word in her message. My basics are getting strong enough that I can start to get a feel for the meaning of new words now! Plus I could read about 90% of the characters! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ I was very surprised. Some stuff is apparently seeping into the grey matter, after all ๐Ÿ˜‚

Time out: And we finished off the day with another episode of Game of Thrones. Halfway through season two now.

It was an awesome day ๐Ÿ‘
