An early start to the weekend

I decided to go all the way to Expo today, just one station from Changi Airport on the east. They have a Female Festival thing on this weekend, in one of the halls at Singapore Expo. Lorna Jane, my favourite fitness apparel brand, has a stall there, so I had to go check it out. They mark up the prices in SG, but the 20% discount that they’re offering at the Festival just brings it down closer to the prices in Oz. And without flying back to Oz, this is the best I can do.

I wanted to get there at 10:30am, the opening time of the Festival, but that’s a tad early for me, so I got there closer to 11am. Not that it mattered, coz SG is not a morning city anyway 😊 When I got there, there were way more people manning the stalls than there were actual visitors πŸ˜‚ So I got to browse through the racks comfortably, and try on items without having to wait for the one and only change room at the stall. The (relatively) early morning start was worth it πŸ‘

I had a quick breakfast at Changi City Point, virtually across the road from the Expo halls, before heading back into town to attend our very first calligraphy lesson! We’re taking a bit of a break from Chinese language lessons, so this short course should help us maintain a bit of the reading and writing aspect of the language.

But man, that lesson was tough. Just writing one horizontal (or vertical) stroke and making it look good was hard enough. Anything more complicated than that was just ridiculous. I guess with anything, it all comes down to practice, and this was our first attempt at this form of art. We had fun, and got a bit of a challenge along the way. I can see how the practice can be quite meditative, so I’d like to continue practising, even after we finish this short 5-lesson course.

I got my hair cut later in the afternoon, and then went home and just chillaxed the rest of the evening. We watched a few more episodes of Masterchef Australia, before calling it a night. I have another early morning start tomorrow, this time for dancing πŸ’ƒπŸ»

DFO, Pasta and Kitty

I went to DFO at South Wharf in the morning, to visit my favourite activewear store, Lorna Jane. I only buy this brand when we’re in Oz, coz they mark up the prices ridiculous percent in SG. And there is no way I’m paying the inflated prices when I know how much they are in Oz. So I just hold off until we’re back here. But I couldn’t walk around the rest of DFO because 1) I was running late to meet a friend for lunch; and 2) I don’t have much room in my luggage for shopping anyway, because half my suitcase is all my crap for the dance comp! But I did find a present for N’s birthday in a few weeks, woohoo! βœ…

I went and had lunch with my friend after DFO. We went and had Italian. And then N and I had Italian again for dinner. And note that we had Italian for dinner last night, and also dinner the night before . Omg I’m all pasta’d out! 🍝🍝🍝

We have someone coming in to look after Kitty while we’re overseas, and she sent me these (slightly blurry) photos of her.

She looks sad πŸ˜” She must be feeling a bit lonely at the moment. I just want to go back and give her a big hug πŸ€— But we still have a few more days here, with a comp thrown in as well. So we’ll see her soon. Poor little one.

Shopping & reminiscing

I left the hotel at 1pm today omg My jet lag is not improving!

I wandered over to the main area of the CBD and decided to have lunch at this lovely little cafe in the Block Arcade called Hopetoun Tea Rooms. Of course while we were living in this city, we never went here. I guess it’s different when you live here, when you have other commitments and you only really have weekends to visit these cafes – ie when the vast majority of other Melburnians are also looking to visit. So you never get to go.

Their cake display is very impressive 😲

It was mega busy though, and I waited a few minutes just to get a table, and also after I’d ordered. But twenty minutes later, the wait staff who took my order came over and apologised for losing my order. Argh! Luckily I didn’t have to wait too long at all for my food to come out.

Ploughman’s lunch and wattleseed breakfast tea

Totes yummoes, but unfortunately I had no room for cake! 🍰 I wanted the pavlova (something else I always try and have whenever we’re back in Oz), so I’ll just have to come back, won’t I 😊

So one of my goals for next year is to explore SG more, to go to the tourist information centre more regularly and find out what the tourists are doing. I want to make the most of our time in SG, so I want to go and explore the city country more while we’re there. I know it’s hard with our commitments throughout the week (and weekends!), but I want to at least try. And having it as one of my goals will have it front of mind too, so there is a better chance of it being scheduled into our week.

I spent the rest of the afternoon just wandering around Bourke St Mall, visiting my favourite Aussie stores: DJs, Myer, Lorna Jane, Kookai, Witchery, Sportsgirl, Peter Alexander…

A day spent reminiscing about our time in this city…. 😊
