Easter day 3: confusion all around

We booked tickets to go see the 11:15am session of Godzilla vs Kong at Admiralty. We get there, and the woman at the counter said that we were at the wrong cinema. WTF. So I asked her which cinema we actually booked the tickets for. She said somewhere in Kowloon – i.e. on the other side of Victoria Harbour. I checked where it was exactly on Google Maps: around 14km away, which Google Maps estimated would take 20 minutes ðŸ˜ą We got to Admiralty at around 11am-ish, so chances are, we’d get to apm, the mall where the other cinema is, by around 11:30am. If we’re lucky, we might just get there right when the movie starts. Otherwise, we’ll be 5-10 minutes late.

Google Maps’ recommended route

Amazingly, we arrived right when the opening credits were rolling. So we might’ve missed a few minutes, but not much. I won’t say much about the movie in case you want to watch it, but I will comment on our 4D tickets. Maaan, they were totally worth it! If you can watch it in 4D, then I would go for that option instead of just the regular 2D. It just adds a whole new level of fun to the movie! I seriously felt like I was going to be flung out of my seat 😂 N felt like he was going to be flung out of his seat, and he weighs almost twice as me! So he kept looking over to make sure that I wouldn’t actually literally fly out of my seat! ðŸĪĢ I felt like I needed a seatbelt! Now I understand why there was a height restriction sign outside the cinema. Kids would easily get flung out of the seat! And you’re not allowed to bring food and drinks in at the moment because of COVID, but I don’t know if they’d let you bring food and drink in there anyway even without COVID. Popcorn and drinks would just be flying everywhere in that cinema, all over yourself and those sitting around you! ðŸĪŠ But that was fuuun. I want to watch more movies in that 4D cinema now!

We had lunch in the shopping mall afterwards, and then just wandered around and did a bit of shopping. We then just went home and I called my mum to help her log into her YouTube account on their new TV. What would ordinarily take less than 5 minutes took around 1.5 hours with her ðŸ˜ąðŸ˜’ It’s just so hard teaching them over the phone. It would’ve been faster if I was there in person, but it still wouldn’t have taken 5 minutes 😒 It’s hard when she’s never really used a computer in her life, and all of a sudden, she’s being asked to do all these foreign things. So I was trying to be as patient as I possibly could, seeing her as a student who wanted to learn. But I could tell that there was an element of ‘just tell me what to press so I can log in’ in her attitude, which doesn’t really help her learn. But I persevered and tried to teach her, instead of just telling her to press this button and then that button. Hopefully she learnt something today!

My fun, productive, awesome day ðŸ˜

I had one of the most productive yet fun days that I’ve had in a long time! 😁

We started the day off having an online meeting with our financial advisor in Oz. That took longer than I expected, but I should’ve known it would take ages. It’s not like we’ve just met the guy 🙄 But it was productive, and totally worth taking the time to catch up with him 👍

My mum called soon after. My parents needed help looking at stuff online, so I helped them out as much as I can. I have somehow found how to be zen when talking to them. I don’t quite know what I’ve done, but I’ve solved the mystery 😂

That call took longer than I expected, so it took us a while to head over to TST for afternoon tea. I had a voucher for 20% off at this afternoon tea, so we took advantage of it today 😊 That too took longer than I had expected, so by the time we finished up, it was pretty much time for N to go to karate. Karate is over on that side of Victoria Harbour, so we went our separate ways. I went home via the supermarket, and then filmed my next YouTube video.

Oh, and to top it all off: HK opened up the vaccination program today, extending it to everyone over the age of 30. We logged in to see when we could get a booking, fully expecting everything to be booked until November or December. We actually managed to get a slot at the end of this month!! ðŸ˜ą OMG! Sooo happy! 😁 I didn’t think we’d be able to get vaccinated until the end of the year, I really thought we’d be right down the bottom of the totem pole. I’m so glad that the HK government is pouring a lot of resources into this massive undertaking #grateful

So that was my awesome day. I wish I had more days like this one!

A bit of a rant

** Warning: I rant quite a fair bit in today’s post. So if you had a ðŸ’Đ day too and don’t need more negativity in your life today, then please skip today’s post and I’ll just see you tomorrow. Or just read the last paragraph 😊 **

My dad’s mobile saga continues, sighhh… We finally gave up on finding the phone, and I just told them to go to Telstra, one of the telecoms in Oz, and just sort it out there. I erased all the data off his phone remotely before it lost battery, so hopefully that actually worked ðŸĪž I’m still annoyed that we couldn’t the phone using the Find My Phone function.

I do wonder sometimes if my parents like to have drama in their lives. I certainly don’t. I like my life to be as drama-free as possible. But I think some people like having drama in their lives, even if it’s at a subconscious level, just to keep their lives interesting, perhaps. They stressed me out and frustrated me to no end today, so much so that I had to take a quick nap in between lessons. It’s my busiest day too, and their stress just added to my stress 😒

And they also don’t seem to understand that I work. I no longer have a corporate job, but I still work. But this doesn’t seem to compute, and I feel like they think I just sit around and do nothing all day, and can happily take their calls whenever they call. My mum also doesn’t seem to realise that I can SEE that she has called, that my phone will tell me that I missed a call from her. Instead, my mum will call non-stop until there are literally SIX missed call notifications from her. WTH, man. So I text her and say, “I am in a meeting, I can’t talk right now.” And what does she do? CALL ME STRAIGHT BACK. WTAF. Seriously ðŸ˜Ą

My dad doesn’t call. He just texts. And gets annoyed that I don’t text back straight away. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. It’s like they have forgotten that they used to work too, and that everyone is now retired like they are!

OK, rant over. I don’t like giving out negativity in the world, but it has just been such a stressful day that I needed to get that out today 😔

So on a more positive note, to balance all that negativity out 😆, social distancing rules have finally been relaxed in HK – yayyy 👏 Gyms have reopened, so N is very happy; and dine-in services at restaurants have been extended to 10pm. And groups of 4 people can now gather in public. Oh, and the most exciting thing for me: libraries have opened up again! Woohoo! ðŸĨģ I may just go and borrow some books tomorrow. It’ll make me feel better after all the stress from today! 😊

A stressful first day back

My dad lost his phone today, so I was helping my parents track it down. I used Google’s Find My Device and found it quite quickly. It was saying that it’s in the general area where my dad was this afternoon for his doctor’s appointment, and luckily it hadn’t moved. So I asked them to go and check out the area. My mum said that it wasn’t anywhere, and she asked all the places in the area that were still open, and no one had handed in a phone. So I’m guessing that he left it at the doctor’s surgery. Of course it was already closed by this time, so all they / we can do is wait until the morning to check to see if he did indeed leave it there . I kept tracking it all afternoon and evening, and it’s still in the exact same spot, so I’m really hoping that it’s at the doctor’s! ðŸĪž

After all that stress (and it’s doubly stressful when you literally have to do everything online because you live in a totally different country 😒), I felt like I needed a stiff drink ðŸĨƒðŸĨƒ

But instead, I did my stretches. It’s actually Day 30 of my 30-day splits challenge, and even though I didn’t quite make it to the full splits, I’m getting pretty damn close ðŸ˜ą I’m going to keep continuing with these stretches, and hopefully I will eventually achieve my goal. I might do a check-in at the end of 3 months and then 6 months, see where I am at that point. But it’s very exciting 😊 I’m still very happy with my progress, though. And maybe getting to the splits at the end of the 30 days isn’t the point. Maybe it’s to build the discipline to stretch every day in order to eventually achieve it ðŸĪ·â€â™‚ïļ

Happy birthday SG

We have run out of toilet paper in the house 😂 I thought I’d be able to last until Friday, but I clearly missed that estimate! This is one of those times when being an underbuyer can cause problems… I won’t buy something unless I absolutely need it. Even to the point where I may run out of something! So I will have to stop by the supermarket tomorrow 😊

I watched the National Day Parade on tv today. They have it every year in SG, to commentate the years since the country’s independence. It’s quite a nice parade. I like it because it’s all about celebrating the nation and its people. It’s very patriotic. We don’t have anything like it in Oz. It’s sorta like Mardi Gras or Anzac Day, but for the whole country, if you know what I mean. I guess it’s easier to do something like this in a small country like SG. It’s just really nice, and it brings all of the people together, reminding everyone of just how far the nation has come in its very short life (53 years young today!). They also involve a number of Singaporeans, so they really make it all about the people too. It’s a nice touch on this very significant day in the country’s history.

So that cheered me up a bit. I wasn’t feeling all that happy today 😔 I spoke to my parents briefly, and my mum was cheerful as always. She has such a lovely approach to life, always so happy and energetic, despite whatever crap life throws at her. I don’t know how she does it. I have to channel her vibe more.

I did make it to the gym tonight, which was good. It was one of those days where I went just to keep the habit in place, if that makes sense, not to break any Personal Bests or anything like that. Tomorrow I may go to Gardens by the Bay, though. I need a bit of a pick-me-up, and Gardens seems to be able to do that for me 😊
