Trying to be the best toddler I can be!

I went to the library today and spent some time in the children’s section, trying to get back on the language learning wagon. I’ve slackened off a bit on my Chinese language learning, so I’m feeling a bit disappointed in my lack of time management. Well it’s not really a lack of time management, I’ve just chosen to dedicate more time to my trading these past few weeks, so I shouldn’t be so hard on myself. It’s the usual balancing act that I always have a hard time managing. I’m sure a ton of other people in the world have the same problem as me πŸ˜”

I got through three kids’ books today:

One was about sharing and looking after loved ones; one was about brushing your teeth; and the last one was about not being afraid of getting an injection πŸ˜† Kids’ books are actually quite good because they repeat sentences over and over – eg “Little Pig wasn’t afraid of getting the injection”, and then “Little Cat also wasn’t afraid of getting an injection” and so on, so you see the same grammar structure over and over again. It’s really good practice! 😊 And even though they’re picture books, there are still a few words that I don’t know, so I get to build on my vocab as well. Any exposure is good! πŸ‘

I’ve also started shadowing podcasts where they speak in Chinese, inspired by my nephew who, in his toddler years, just naturally mimics whatever he hears. So even though I can’t repeat everything the native speaker says, I just try and repeat as much as I can, even if it’s just a few words here and there, and whether or not I know what the words even mean. So basically just trying to be the best toddler that I can be! πŸ˜† So hopefully it’s all adding to my web of Chinese language “stuff” 🀞

A tough day

It was a tough day for me today, I was feeling quite down for most of the day πŸ˜” I spent a lot of time on my trading, probably to distract myself, otherwise I probably would’ve just wallowed in my sorrows and taken the day off and put it down as a mental health day. I haven’t needed one of those in quite a long time; today would’ve been a good day for one. I didn’t even go down to the local sports bar to watch tonight’s State of Origin with N and a few of his colleagues πŸ˜” Hopefully I’ll feel a little better tomorrow.

I watched a few more episodes of Masterchef Australia instead. I reckon something is going on between Derek and Larissa, but I don’t want to Google this possible relationship in case any of the results that come up give something away from “the future” πŸ˜‚ So if anyone out there is also watching this season’s Masterchef Australia, do let me know if something is going on between these two! πŸ˜†

Old and new

I received an email from my SG broker saying that they’re closing my account in a few weeks, as new regulations won’t allow them to hold accounts for residents of HK πŸ˜” I am soooo sad about this!! I really like this broker. Their service is great, and their platform is really easy to use and navigate your way around.

So I then went searching for a new broker, and wasn’t all that impressed with what I found πŸ˜’ But I did come across an Australian one, which I’d heard of before, so I signed up for a demo account. And less than ten minutes later I reckon, a relationship manager gave me a call to say that he’d seen my application! Talk about customer service! And note this was at 7pm Sydney time, where the call came from, and where their head office is. So that was quite impressive. But before I sign up properly, I just want to play with their demo platform for a while and make sure I know how to use it before I actually give them real money.

I spoke to my mum for a little while after I spoke to mr broker representative guy, and then just watched a few episodes of Masterchef Australia. I feel like I’m sooo behind this year. I’ve watched most seasons of this show, and maybe I watch it even more religiously now, as it’s one of the last few remaining symbols of my life in Australia. I do miss my life in Oz, but I have also had an amazing experience living in Asia the past few years. Not always sunshine and rainbows, but definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And as I keep saying, I don’t know how long we will have the privilege of living here, so I just try and be grateful for every day that we do get to spend in this part of the world. But that doesn’t mean I won’t vent here every once in a while! πŸ˜‚

Mediocrity

I watched the second episode of Goblin, my new Korean drama. It was actually quite mediocre compared to the first episode, I was rather disappointed! It got a very high rating on mydramalist.com, and the first episode lived up to this rating, so I’m quite surprised that it’s already starting to lose its appeal. I hope it picks up soon, otherwise I may just have to abandon this drama and move on to the next one πŸ˜” But I do want to give this one a chance, as some dramas that I’ve watched in the past have started off slow, but then got really good as the drama continued, so I shouldn’t be so hasty! πŸ˜†

And then we watched the Detective Pikachu movie tonight. The PokΓ©mon were sooo cuuute! But apart from them, I didn’t think much of the rest of the movie, unfortunately. Ryan Reynolds was his usual funny self, so that helped, but yeah, not much else going for this movie πŸ˜”

And coupled with some pretty ordinary trading today, basically my Friday was filled with mediocrity ☹️

Feeling positive

I had quite a productive day today, successfully working on all my main goals today: my Chinese, my trading and my fitness πŸ‘

I went to the gym for the first time in aaages, ever since I got sick, so I didn’t feel all that strong today. But I just wanted to get back into the routine of going, so I achieved that, at least. But then about half an hour in, my earphones ran out of juice πŸ”‹ And I do my dance practice in the second half of my gym session, and my earphones died on me right when I needed them. Isn’t that lovely πŸ˜’ But that’s ok, at least I went, I just needed to get back into it today, that was really my only goal today.

And then we watched the latest episode of Game of Thrones. It’s still making me interested in reading the book series, so I’ve pulled out book one from the study – N has the whole series πŸ“– It’s thick as! πŸ˜† Like I mentioned before, it’s not a genre that I usually read, so I’m not sure if I’ll enjoy it, but I’ll give it a go anyway. I’m enjoying the tv series, so I’m hoping that I’ll get some level of enjoyment from the books too 🀞

β€œForced” to spend the morning outside

They were cleaning the water tanks in our apartment building this morning, so I went and spent the morning outside. I had a leisurely morning tea, and then headed over to the library to read my trading textbook for a while. While I was there, I also decided to borrow The Little Prince, a book that I stumbled upon the other day. The library’s version has both English and Chinese, so I figured that will be good reading practice, especially since it’s a children’s book and so is quite easy to read. It’s a huuuge step up from my “Where’s Spot?” Chinese equivalent books that I’ve been reading πŸ˜‚ So it may be a bit ambitious for me. Even if it is, the story is quite entertaining anyway, so at least I can enjoy the English half 😊

After another shite trading session, I decided to vent my frustration at the gym – and actually ended up having a good sesh there! πŸ’ͺ I was quite proud of my effort 😊

And then we just watched an episode of our current Cantonese drama, The Exorcist’s Meter. I can’t believe I’m not obsessed with a Korean drama at the moment, actually. I think I’ve just been so focussed on my goals that I haven’t really cared too much about tv. That and the fact that I haven’t found an addictive series to get into! πŸ˜‚ So if anyone has any recommendations, send them my way! 😊

Three hours of my day

I felt better today, and so actually got some stuff done, unlike the last two days πŸ˜’ I went down to the open public area in our apartment building and read my trading textbook there for about an hour, as our neighbours downstairs are currently renovating, and the noise was a bit too disruptive today. Plus the sun was out, so it was nice to just sit out there and enjoy it for a bit β˜€οΈ

I rang my mum and dad just before I was going to head out to buy some groceries. I just wanted to say hi and to also let them know that I was ok, since I have been absent on social media lately. Well, the language exchange apps are a form of social media, so that’s not quite true 😊 What I expected to be a 5-minute conversation turned out to be an hour long 😳 I forgot how chatty my mum is. How could I forget?!? πŸ˜‚

And then I wandered around the neighbourhood and went to five different supermarkets (!!), none of which stocked the brand of cat litter that I like! What is up with that?!? The one supermarket that I go to buy it has run out of stock, and the other four didn’t seem to stock it at all. That’s just ridiculous. So I might go online and see if I can order it from there and get it home delivered. Although this also seems just as ridiculous, since all these supermarkets are within walking distance from home! πŸ€ͺ
