Feeling positive

I had quite a productive day today, successfully working on all my main goals today: my Chinese, my trading and my fitness πŸ‘

I went to the gym for the first time in aaages, ever since I got sick, so I didn’t feel all that strong today. But I just wanted to get back into the routine of going, so I achieved that, at least. But then about half an hour in, my earphones ran out of juice πŸ”‹ And I do my dance practice in the second half of my gym session, and my earphones died on me right when I needed them. Isn’t that lovely πŸ˜’ But that’s ok, at least I went, I just needed to get back into it today, that was really my only goal today.

And then we watched the latest episode of Game of Thrones. It’s still making me interested in reading the book series, so I’ve pulled out book one from the study – N has the whole series πŸ“– It’s thick as! πŸ˜† Like I mentioned before, it’s not a genre that I usually read, so I’m not sure if I’ll enjoy it, but I’ll give it a go anyway. I’m enjoying the tv series, so I’m hoping that I’ll get some level of enjoyment from the books too 🀞

β€œForced” to spend the morning outside

They were cleaning the water tanks in our apartment building this morning, so I went and spent the morning outside. I had a leisurely morning tea, and then headed over to the library to read my trading textbook for a while. While I was there, I also decided to borrow The Little Prince, a book that I stumbled upon the other day. The library’s version has both English and Chinese, so I figured that will be good reading practice, especially since it’s a children’s book and so is quite easy to read. It’s a huuuge step up from my “Where’s Spot?” Chinese equivalent books that I’ve been reading πŸ˜‚ So it may be a bit ambitious for me. Even if it is, the story is quite entertaining anyway, so at least I can enjoy the English half 😊

After another shite trading session, I decided to vent my frustration at the gym – and actually ended up having a good sesh there! πŸ’ͺ I was quite proud of my effort 😊

And then we just watched an episode of our current Cantonese drama, The Exorcist’s Meter. I can’t believe I’m not obsessed with a Korean drama at the moment, actually. I think I’ve just been so focussed on my goals that I haven’t really cared too much about tv. That and the fact that I haven’t found an addictive series to get into! πŸ˜‚ So if anyone has any recommendations, send them my way! 😊

Three hours of my day

I felt better today, and so actually got some stuff done, unlike the last two days πŸ˜’ I went down to the open public area in our apartment building and read my trading textbook there for about an hour, as our neighbours downstairs are currently renovating, and the noise was a bit too disruptive today. Plus the sun was out, so it was nice to just sit out there and enjoy it for a bit β˜€οΈ

I rang my mum and dad just before I was going to head out to buy some groceries. I just wanted to say hi and to also let them know that I was ok, since I have been absent on social media lately. Well, the language exchange apps are a form of social media, so that’s not quite true 😊 What I expected to be a 5-minute conversation turned out to be an hour long 😳 I forgot how chatty my mum is. How could I forget?!? πŸ˜‚

And then I wandered around the neighbourhood and went to five different supermarkets (!!), none of which stocked the brand of cat litter that I like! What is up with that?!? The one supermarket that I go to buy it has run out of stock, and the other four didn’t seem to stock it at all. That’s just ridiculous. So I might go online and see if I can order it from there and get it home delivered. Although this also seems just as ridiculous, since all these supermarkets are within walking distance from home! πŸ€ͺ

Productive day in a different way

I had a pretty shite sleep last night πŸ˜” N woke me up when he got home in the middle of the night, and I couldn’t get back to sleep after that, so I started reading one of my trading textbooks – at something like 4am. For an hour. OMG. I eventually fell back asleep, but then Kitty woke me up soon after with her scratching, for crying out loud. I sorted that out quickly, and from there, I finally got a few hours’ sleep in, and surprisingly stayed awake the rest of the day.

We received a letter from HSBC the other day, and there was no English translation. Normally most large organisations will have both English and Chinese, but for whatever reason, this letter was just in Chinese. So we went into a branch to get them to translate for us, and everything was all good πŸ˜… That’s all we wanted to hear, and off we went on our merry way 😊

We then went for yum cha somewhere near the branch. I seriously can’t enough of yum cha, it’s just the best, man! And we’re now at The Source, so yum cha is everywhere, at all price points and all varieties. We went to one today, Social Place, which apparently serves a more contemporary style, pushing the boundaries on what can be served at yum cha. It was quite good! Randomly choosing a restaurant from the OpenRice app can obviously be a bit hit and miss, and today was a good hit πŸ‘

We then went to Wan Chai Computer Center to get a new phone case and mouse, as both of mine are dying. The state of my phone case is now embarrassing, with bits of material flaking off it πŸ˜‚ Reminds me of the sad state of my old handbag and my old pair of shoes, both of which I replaced recently as well. I use things right up until they’re on their deathbed – and then use it some more πŸ˜‚ But I managed to find replacements for both today the Computer Centre, so I’m happy 😊

And then we spent the evening on fitness, with N going to karate and me to the gym.

Quite a productive day in a different way, this time πŸ‘

A detailed plan

I continued working on my goals today, around my Chinese language learning, my trading, and general fitness. I still think that I can do more in each category, so I’m going to plan out my week going forward, be more specific about what actions I will take on each day and at which time. I think my current plan is still a bit too general, which leaves me with too much choice, too much freedom as to when (or if!) I will do something – and therefore a higher likelihood of me making the wrong choice, and therefore end up not ticking things off my daily to-do list. I’ll try putting together a detailed plan for tomorrow, and see how that works out. I’ll try it on Friday too, and if I find some good success with it, I’ll continue with it into next week as well. I’ll keep you posted 😊

I finished Go Back Couple tonight, my latest Korean drama. The ending was totally predictable, even for me who normally never sees where the storyline is going! But the last episode was still quite enjoyable to watch. And overall, I enjoyed the series. Now time to look for my next drama 😊

Language learning day

I like reading these bilingual picture books at the library, where one side is in Chinese, and if you flip the book over, you can read the book all over again in English. It’s really handy to make sure I’m understanding the Chinese correctly. I also get to learn more everyday words and phrases that won’t ordinarily be taught in adult classroom lessons, words that kids will naturally hear at that age, like “toys”, “games”, “dinosaur” etc, and expressions like “my mum and dad don’t have to hold my hand”‘ or “I can put away my toys by myself”, continuing to add to my vocab.

After working on my trading, I then spent the evening just chatting to people, this time on a different language exchange app called HelloTalk. The guys on this app seem genuinely interested in improving their English, unlike in that Tandem app, where I had one guy open with “Hi beautiful”. Wth?! 🀨 So I’ll just continue to use HelloTalk for a while and see how I like it.

Unproductive day

I didn’t do much of anything today, sighhh. I was feeling really tired, after getting up with N this morning, who had an early flight to catch. I never really recovered from the early start to my day πŸ˜”

After a shite trading session, I just consoled myself by watching more of my current Korean drama, Go Back Couple. It’s not a bad series; it takes you from laughter to sadness to anger and frustration all in one episode. And does it all over again in the next one. It’s mainly set back to 1999. Even though it’s in Seoul, they still have posters up in the kids’ rooms of some western movies that were out at that time – eg The Matrix and The Truman Show. It takes me back to that time, and also back to our uni days, which is where a lot of the scenes also take place. It’s quite a fun series, but with some serious themes running through it as well, so I think it’s quite well written. But I can see the ending from a mile away, though, and I normally can’t predict where storylines will go. So let’s see if the writers can surprise me with a different ending 😊
